Sep/Oct 2017

September got off to a great start when I received an email informing me that Partikel had been nominated for a Parliamentary Jazz Award in the "Jazz Ensemble of the Year" category. We are nominated along side "Phronesis" and "Binker and Moses", two bands of musicians I respect hugely so it's a real honor to be included in this!

Its a busy few months with lots of playing including a tour of Scotland with Ollie Howell's Quartet and I'm also looking forward to heading to Poland with singer Anthony Strong.

I've also decided to update the promotional material for my quartet and Partikel. We have filmed some new material which can be seen on the videos page and also at The videos look and sound great due to the considerable talents of Dan Redding and Peter Beckman. There are many exciting things in the pipeline for both of these project during 2018 and I believe going the extra mile to insure your online material is looking and sounding slick goes a long way to making sure you really get the most out of the various performance opportunities that may come your way as a working musician.

August 2017

I love to travel and I'm lucky to be doing a bit this month. I am tutoring on the Dordogne International Jazz summerschool through the 1st week of August. This takes place in a very old Chateaux in the tiny village of Monteton. It is always a great experience to be isolated in such a beautiful enviroment playing music and hanging out with people that all share a passion for music. Once I get back from that I'm taking a bit of a break in the south of Italy to chill out and work on some music for a few gigs towards the end of the month. I'm very much looking forward to heading to Croatia on the 25th with Zara McFarlane. She writes great music and has an incredible voice, plus Croatia is somewhere I've never been to which is always an added bonus. I am also very excited about 3 nights playing the opening set at Ronnie Scotts on the 28th, 29th and 30th August with a band lead by Ant Law featuring Kevin Glasgow and Gary Husband. These three musicians are absolutely terrifying and we will be performing a set of Ant's music which is both challenging and beautiful in equal measures.

Duncan endorses Benz Reeds

I am extremely privileged to be a featured Benz reeds artist. My brother tipped me off to these reeds and I am know playing them on both tenor and soprano. They are without a doubt the best reeds I have come across. Instantly responsive with extremely consistent quality from reed to reed. These reeds give a much thicker core to your sound and allow you to project an even tone with ease throughout all registers.

For more information on these amazing reeds click  HERE and try some for yourself.

New things in store for 2016

Happy New Year!

2016 is looking to be an exciting year with lots of new projects and challenges. I have a busy start to the year with Partikel. We will be playing a number of dates throughout the UK from January - May in the lead up to heading into the studio to record our 4th album. Check here for the Partikel tour schedule or below is our tour poster.

I am also looking forward to being involved in many new projects this year including my brother Samuel's new sextet. We used to play together a lot when we were younger so I'm very much looking forward to this. We will be doing some playing around the UK and working towards recording the album this summer. I will be joining violinist David La Page's new "Diving Bell" project where we will be recording and then touring concert venues and Aquariums throughout the UK. The project will be raising money for the Marine Conservation Society.

I've been a member of drummer Ollie Howell's band for the past few years who was awarded a grant from "Sky Arts" to record his second album which is pretty much done and due for release later this year.  We recorded this at Real World Studios about a year ago, the album has a beautiful sound and there is also a fair bit of post production that has been added to the music.

I'm lucky to have been working in pianist Benet McLean's band for a long time now and he has just finished putting together his latest album which is also due out this year which I'm very excited about. The results are absolutely epic!

Thanks for reading!
