Duncan Eagles - Citizen

Citizen is the debut album from Duncan released February 2019 with major USA label Ropeadope. Duncan joins a roster that includes Aaron Parks, Christian Scott and Logan Richardson releasing an album of intensely melodic music.

“Duncan Eagles is forging a new path and is likely on the road to even more success as the wave of London Jazz is swelling, signaling another British Invasion, this time in the jazz genre.” Glide Magasine

“Eagles offers up a masterclass in sensitive tenor saxophone” ☆☆☆☆ All About Jazz

“a superbly realised set of compositions played at the very highest level, and this album should continue to develop Eagles’ reputation as a player making his way to the forefront of the jazz scene both in the UK and further afield” Jazz Views

Partikel - Counteraction

Counteraction shifts up yet another gear, with music crafted specifically around this forward-thinking approach, while also introducing atmospheric electric guitarist Ant Law, flautist and baritone saxophonist Anna Cooper, and electronic sound designer Sisi Lu. The compositions (mostly by Eagles) explore fascinating textural avenues, balancing and integrating them with the band’s original sax, bass and drums identity to create often strikingly unusual resonances.

“Partikel will always have the acoustic trio at its heart. But opening ourselves to a range of genres such as electronica, as well as experiencing the music of different cultures, widens the appeal of our music, bridging gaps for audiences. Though we like to maintain a level of artistic integrity, to keep it challenging, it’s great that this is already happening.”

"Supple trio finds new warmth and appeal" The Guardian ☆☆☆☆

this is an album of brave and imaginative compositions enhanced by bravura performances... their best to date."

Partikel - String Theory

String Theory is the ambitious third release from Partikel a band that is largely heralded in the UK as one of the most exciting new groups working in improvised-based music. This latest project sees the band pushing their own sonic and compositional boundaries by teaming up with four of the most in-demand string players on the UK scene, fusing their love of jazz, rock and world music with the sounds and textures of a string quartet to create a high energy album that merges a bewildering array of unique soundscapes.

"Inventive contrapuntally - rich arrangements, this excellent experiment represents a perfect marriage of two seemingly disparate entities, resulting in an album of richly mellifluous sonority" All About Jazz ☆☆☆☆☆

"One of the most successful attempts I've heard at fully integrating a string quartet into a jazz ensemble....like a miniature Loose Tubes with strings. Jazz Journal  ☆☆☆☆☆

Partikel

Partikel released their self titled debut album in 2010 to critical acclaim.

The trio was formed for a Monday night jam session at the Grey Horse in Kingston-Upon-Thames. The night gave them a platform to write, develop and perform their own compositions. The music featured on this album is a product of material developed over this three year residency before moving the session to the Hideaway, Streatham.

"All the players are strong and creative and are set to develop together as a group... The compositions are episodic and full of variety."Julian Joseph, BBC Radio 3

Partikel - Cohesion

Since releasing their eponymous debut album in 2010, London, UK based contemporary jazz trio Partikel have established themselves as a notable addition to the European creative music scene, known for their high-energy live performances and striking originality. Having spent 18 months performing new music across Europe while holding regular rehearsals, the band has gone into the studio and the result of this intense period ofmusic making is now documented on Cohesion, their latest release for Whirlwind Recordings. According to tenor saxophonist Duncan Eagles, “Most of the new songs that made it onto this album we have been playing in for a long time, developing it on the bandstand and rehearsal room, but the way we were playing this music a year ago is a world apart from how you will hear it on Cohesion.

"Ford's limber, inventive patterns, Luthert's propulsive yet flexible bass licks and Eagle's hard edged lyricism constitute a highly satisfying album" BBC Music Magazine ☆☆☆☆

"Partikel bring the European Jazz Scene something incredibly dynamic and original" Gaffa Music (Denmark) ☆☆☆☆

Duncan Eagles / Mark Perry Quintet

Duncan Eagles and Mark Perry present a collaborative project featuring some of the most talented and up and coming musicians working on the UK jazz scene. Both Mark and Duncan have contributed original compositions that have been written specifically for the recording of this album with the focus being very much on a melodic and interactive band sound. The album has a contemporary feel with many clear and varied influences from the warm soulful vocal touches from Ola Onabule to the dark interactive vamps from Mark Perry's tribute to US saxophonist Gary Thomas on "GT".

"Perry and saxophonist Eagles are long-term collaborators whose ease together is evident, and here they have made an intelligent and very musical set.John Fordham, The Guardian  ☆☆☆☆

"Pleasing melodies and some beguiling counterpoint all underpinned by subtle harmonic and rhythmic twists" The Scotsman ☆☆☆☆
